Sounder Rail

In 2000, Sound Transit began Sounder commuter rail service between Tacoma and Seattle. Since then, it has expanded service on that line, and in 2004, started new commuter rail service between Everett and Seattle. Sounder commuter trains currently operate in a 74-mile corridor from Everett to Tacoma with an 8 mile extension to Lakewood underway. With parking lots at nearly all of the stations, the Sounder service is a popular commuting option for many individuals in the region and is used by nearly 10,000 people each weekday. As demand increases, we are adding more service – Sounder commuter rail is up to three round-trips in our Everett-Seattle corridor, and six round-trips in the Tacoma-Seattle corridor every weekday. We also provide popular Mariners and Seahawks rail service to home games.
